Joseph Fourier University

Joseph Fourier University, based in Grenoble in the south-east of France, is renowned for its excellence in the fields of IT and Engineering. The university can trace its history all the way back to the 1300s and today it forms part of the Grenoble Alpes University (UGA).

The vast campus to the east of the city covers 175 hectares and offers a wide array of activities for its tens of thousands of students to get involved with. There are several other sites spread across Grenoble and the surrounding area.

The city itself is famous for its beautiful location in the French Alps and offers an excellent cultural and artistic scene as well as an exciting nightlife and of course delicious food. The campus is flanked by three mountains, offering a range of winter sports activities.

Joseph Fourier University offers around 50 bachelors degrees and more than 80 research-focused or vocational postgraduate qualifications. The institution runs over 70 laboratories and offers technically-oriented courses in English at master's level as well as bachelors-level scientific English language courses over the summer.

French language is a requirement to study many undergraduate courses.

UGA is outward-looking with over 650 international partners across 80 countries and the university makes it easy for foreign students to acclimatise to the French way of life with support and student societies to ease integration.

Famous alumni include physicist Rajaâ Cherkaoui El Moursli who helped discover the Higgs Boson and Charles Elachi who directs NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
