Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (SNS) is a public university located in Italy’s Tuscany region, famous for being the home of Italian Renaissance. 

The higher education institution traces its history back to 1810, when Napoleon I issued an official order demanding its establishment as a twin institute of the Parisian École Normale Supérieure. 

SNS is part of the higher education network called Pisa University System alongside with University of Pisa and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies.  

Originally established to help young scholars to delve into the relationship between sciences and humanities, the institution still successfully follows the same direction by encouraging research and disseminating know-how within industries. 

Students can choose from variety of programs including undergraduate and doctorate degrees. Among the most popular subjects at Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa are history of art and archaeology, modern and contemporary literature, mathematics and physics. 

The institution has modern halls of residence, located in Pisa and Florence, and students can also benefit from the access to one of the biggest open-shelf libraries in Europe, located on campus.  

The higher education institution and its premises are built in a way which is designed to encourage interaction between students, researchers and teaching staff. There is a special focus on seminars and discussion in teaching programmes, which aims to foster a dialogue between academics.

The university also hosts regular events such as public conferences, symposiums and meetings with professionals from different industries to keep its students updated about the latest trends in their respective fields. 

SNS’s most notable alumni include Nobel Prize Laureate for literature Giosuè Carducci, and former Italian prime ministers Giuliano Amato and Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
